Lecture Recital Celebrating African American Composer William Dawson

Join us for coffee and pastries and learn about the fascinating tale of African American Composer William Dawson, presented by Dr. Mark Malone. Vocal solos, composed by Dawson, will be performed by Mezzo-Soprano Katrina Cox.

Katrina L. Cox 

Laurel, MS native, Katrina L. Cox holds degrees in vocal performance from William Carey University, the State University of New York at Binghamton, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern Mississippi. In New York, she performed with Tri-Cities Opera, the Big Band Jazz Ensemble, “Harpur Jazz”, Opera North in New Hampshire and toured through Southern Tier New York with her own jazz band, “The New Standard” from 2007-2009. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Music and the director of Carpenter’s Wood in the Winters School of Music at William Carey University.
